Kiambu Ward Reps have asked National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah to stop hiding behind Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to attack them.

The MCAs have been embroiled in a political conflict with the Kikuyu MP, who has been accusing Governor Kimani Wamatangi of dictatorship and poorly managing the county.

While the MCAs have been defending the governor from the attacks, Ichung’wah has been confronting them for allegedly doing less to keep the county boss on toes on matters proper utilisation and management of resources.

Speaking at Jesus Compassionate Church in Ruiru the MCAs, led by Majority Leader Godfrey Mucheke, Grace Hinga (Kabete) and Patrick Ngaruiya (Tigoni), also urged Gachagua who had earlier censured them for continually attacking Ichung’wa to tame the Majority Leader.

Gachagua who spoke in Gatundu South last week had told the MCAs to respect the position held by Ichung’wah.

However, the Ward Reps, maintained that while they respect Gachagua’s call urging them to stop attacking Ichung’wa, he (Ichung’wa) too must reciprocate by respecting them and the county leadership.

They urged the DP to consider investigating the source of their political differences with Ichung’wa before defending him, adding that it is the Kikuyu MP who started the fight by belittling them.

Things gone south

They revealed that a section of local MPs have been scheming to have Wamatangi dethroned, saying one of them – the Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a has already declared her bid for governorship in 2027.

“You started the fight by attacking Wamatangi. Stop hiding behind the Deputy President now that things have gone south.

Gachagua has a job to revive coffee and tea in Mount Kenya and not defend you. You started all these by stooping too low. Now come face us, let us play the game together,” Mucheke told Ichung’wa.

“We respect you as Kiambu people but first understand what is ailing us. When the President came to Kiambu, the MPs had ferried all sorts of people to destabilise the meeting. Keep off Kiambu fights, we know ourselves and the political direction we want to take,” Ngaruiya, the MCA for Tigoni urged the DP.

During his visits, President Ruto, urged Kiambu leaders to tone down and first serve the people instead of engaging in early campaigns.
