February 19, 2024: Top news events to look out for today
Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
KK Parliamentary meeting
The Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group is scheduled to convene on Monday, February 19, as part of the second annual National Executive retreat in Nakuru County, running from February 18 to 21, 2024.
During the meeting, they will present a progress report on the second session of the 13th Parliament and set the agenda for the upcoming third session.
In tandem with the parliamentary meeting, cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, and other senior government officials will conduct a review of the current administration’s performance on February 20 and 21.
Ngolesia case
On the legal front, the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court will handle the case involving Samuel Ngolesia, also known as Samuel Krop Ngolesia, as confirmed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Ngolesia faces charges including uttering false documents, forgery, deceiving a principal, fraudulent acquisition of public documents, and providing false information.
These allegations stem from the forgery of academic certificates purportedly used by Ngolesia during his pursuit of employment in the Public Service.
Black out
Furthermore, five counties are slated to undergo power interruptions on Monday, February 19, 2024, due to scheduled maintenance of Kenya Power’s facilities.
In Nyeri County, the affected areas encompass Gikororo, Kahuru Mkt, Ndima T/Factory, Kiaruhiu, Gathaithi, Mathia, Canteen, Gitangaruri, Ndima Kanini, Kahuro TBC, Ndiriti, Kiang’ombe, Gathambi, Muragara, Kanyai TBC, Kiambagathi, Mihuru TBC, Mununga, and adjacent customers, enduring a power outage from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Likewise, Kiambu County will experience power cuts in Ngethu Water Works Upper Camp, Gathugu, Kagonye, Kiriko Mission, Kariminu Dam, Kanyoni, Ndiko, Gakoe, Thuraku, Mwimuto, Gachege, Njahi, Karatu, Karinga, Gitwe, Wanugu, Ndarugu, Gacharage Water, Kirangi, and adjacent areas, lasting from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The South Nyanza counties of Nyamira and Kisii will also face power disruptions. Manga DC, Ritongo Booster, Juvenile, Manga Sengera, Nyaisa, and neighboring customers in Nyamira County will be without power from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, while Kisii Town and its environs will experience a blackout from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Finally, in Nandi County, KCC Lessos, Emdin, Terige, Kapnyeberai, Kilibwoni Center, and nearby customers will encounter a power outage from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
