Pamzo: Shabana appoint former Gor Mahia, Posta Rangers tactician as coach
Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Shabana FC have confirmed the appointment of Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo as their new head coach.
Pamzo has agreed to take over at Tore Bobe after initial talks broke down. Then, Shabana considered an approach for Nairobi City Stars’ Nicholas Muyoti and Salim Babu of Kenya Police, but the duo stayed put with their current teams.
With Babu and Muyoti unavailable, the National Super League champions reignited their interest in the former Harambee Star, whom they have finally convinced and consequently appointed.
“It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I address you today on behalf of the Shabana FC management. On this 10th day of January 2024, we proudly announce the appointment of Sammy Omolo ‘Pamzo’ as the coach of our esteemed club.
“Sammy Omollo brings a wealth of experience, expertise, and a proven track record in the realm of football coaching. His passion for the sport and dedication to nurturing talent align seamlessly with Shabana FC’s vision and values. We are confident that under his guidance, our team will flourish and continue to uphold the rich legacy of Shabana FC,” Shabana’s statement, signed by secretary general Elizaphan Kiama, read.
Hope in Pamzo
Shabana hope that Pamzo, a Premier League winner with Tusker in 2011, will help them stabilise and enjoy a positive run in the second leg of the league.
Tore Bobe‘s promotion to the top-tier, realised after 17 years of gracing the lower-tier soccer, did not start well, despite the hope that fans had in them following an impressive 2022/23 season.
“Mr. Omollo’s illustrious career and strategic approach to the game are well documented. His leadership skills and ability to inspire players to reach their full potential make him the ideal candidate to lead Shabana FC into this new chapter of our journey.
“We extend our warmest welcome to Mr. Omollo and express our excitement at the prospect of working together to achieve our collective goals. His appointment marks a pivotal moment in our club’s history, and we invite all our supporters, players, and staff to unite and extend their full support to Mr. Omollo as he takes the reins of Shabana FC.
“With Mr. Omollo at the helm, we are poised to scale new heights of success and uphold the spirit of excellence that defines Shabana FC. Let us rally behind our new coach and continue to showcase the unwavering passion and dedication that sets our club apart,” Tore Bobe added.
Pamzo has handled several teams, including Gor Mahia, Mahakama FC, Oserian FC, defunct Sony Sugar FC, Zetech University FC, and Posta Rangers FC.
