Football Kenya Federation‘s Integrity Officer Mike Kamure has insisted on the importance of staying vigilant against the dangers of match-fixing.

Leading a workshop focused on this issue, Kamure addressed members of FKF Premier League side Talanta FC on December 20, 2023, in Kasarani.

Football threat

He highlighted the constant threat posed by syndicates attempting to manipulate games and seeking to lure in players or officials.

Kamure stressed the need for awareness, pointing out instances globally where players and referees have been bribed to fix matches, often involving huge sums of money.

Acknowledging the lure of quick cash, Kamure insisted on the importance of safeguarding the ethical integrity of the sport.

“Unscrupulous syndicates are consistently seeking ways to infiltrate our game and coerce players or officials into manipulating matches. We must remain vigilant against the dangers of match-fixing,” Kamure pointed out.

“The allure of quick cash is often exploited by fixers, making it tempting for unsuspecting players. However, we must safeguard the ethical integrity of our beloved sport,” he added.

Football sensitization workshop

The workshop delved into various techniques used by fixers to approach players, including establishing friendships and exploiting financial needs.

Players were guided on identifying warning signs and resisting any advances from fixers.

The Football Kenya Federation aims to extend match-fixing education to all Kenyan clubs and match officials as part of efforts to curb match-fixing in the sport.
