Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has summoned all the elected leaders from Kiambu to discuss the fallout between them and Governor Kimani Wamatangi.

Gachagua said he will this morning meet all the members of the County assembly at 7.00am before holding a sitting with the 14 MPs in the county.

Later in the afternoon, he will hold a closed-door meeting with the governor. “I want to understand what has been ailing this county, we cannot allow Kiambu to go down as we watch,” Gachagua told the congregation at Kiambu ACK Church.

The DP, however, appeared to be urging Wamatangi to embrace his deputy Rosemary Kirika in running the county. “Governor ought to be borrowing from President William Ruto who accord his deputy duties and allows him to work as assigned,” said Gachagua in relation to a spat between Wamatangi and Kirika.

He added: “I have committed the whole of tomorrow (Monday) to meet your leaders to find out what has been the problem.”

The meeting comes even as some MCAs accused the local MPs of being behind a plot to impeach Wamatangi.

The county has 86 MCAs, 49 of whom are supporting Wamatangi while 16 want him ousted. The pro-Wamatangi MCAs are now claiming that some of their colleagues are getting backing from the disgruntled MPs to pass a motion of impeachment against the Governor, a move they vowed to crush. The ward reps dared their counterparts to bring the motion to the County Assembly, vowing that the majority would throw it out.

Addressing a press conference at the County Assembly chambers, the MCAs charged that some MPs have a grudge against Wamatangi over the issue of the establishment of Export Processing Zones in various parts of the county.

“We assert that Kiambu is not prepared for any removal of the Governor from office. As a County, we are unwilling to revisit that path due to its previous disastrous consequences,” they said in a joint statement signed by 49 MCAs. Led by Kamenu ward MCA Peter Mburu, they dismissed as unfounded and farfetched, a plot by 16 of their colleagues to start a process for the removal of the first term Governor.

The presser attended by Majority Leader Geoffrey Mucheke, Minority Leader Joe Kigara and Chief Whip Nelson Munga, the ward representatives accused outside forces and politicians of sowing seeds of division among them.

“I am appealing to our colleagues, who are the minority, not to accept to be used by these people whohave issues with EPZ allocations to derail our county,” said Mburu.

Public participation He added that the EPZ project expected to be put up on land surrendered by Del Monte Ltd must first go through public participation forums before any decision can be made.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Kwanza government has no issues with retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and will accord him the respect he deserves, Deputy President Gachagua affirmed yesterday.

“Now that there are no protests and no disturbances, we are content. But if they restart, we will be ready to stand alongside them. We want everyone to come together and work in unity for the betterment of our country,” Gachagua said.

The DP said the past differences between the government and the former president no longer exist and called for unity among all leaders.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta is our son from Kiambu. He served as our fourth President. We had differences with him, but those differences are now in the past. He has retired, returned home, and kept a low profile, and we respect his decision,” Gachagua remarked.
