AFC Leopards finally recorded their first win in the 2023/24 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season after a 1-0 victory over Nzoia Sugar in Bungoma on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

The pressure was already building up on the new head coach, Tomas Trucha, after they lost his match in charge when they went 1-0 down to Bandari in their last match.

At Sudi Stadium, the winless run was ended after Ingwe went ahead in the first half and held tightly onto the slim lead to finally collect three points from a match for the first time this term.

Leopards’ goal

After Clifton Miheso was fouled, Brian Yakhama took the spot-kick duties and delivered the goal in the 34th minute.

The victory means that the 1998 Premier League champions moved slightly above the relegation zone and are now 15th on the table.

Meanwhile, Ulinzi Stars tore apart National Super League champions Shabana FC to pick up a 4-0 win at Ulinzi Complex.

From the start, the Soldiers looked a more determined side and almost grabbed the lead in the fifth minute after a combination between Stanley Omondi and Mark Bikokwa, but a good intervention by the visiting goalkeeper kept the scoreline goalless.

At the half-hour mark, the Soldiers were not to be denied, as they grabbed the lead when Bonaventure Muchika scored, with Shabana’s defense looking shambolic.

Shabana’s shambolic defence

Another lapse in concentration in the defense line gave Ulinzi a perfect chance to score the second through Bikokwa. Alex Masinde delivered a good pass into the box, and Bikokwa was in the right spot to slot home and extend their lead.

Enosh Ochieng added the third one for the 2010 Premier League champions after he managed to convert a low cross into a goal. Ochieng would have grabbed a brace, but he was denied by Erick Ongiri in Shabana’s goal moments later after finding the back of the net.

Boniface Muchiri was the scorer of the fourth goal as Ulinzi Stars grabbed their biggest win of the season so far.

Shabana kept fighting despite trailing by a big margin, but Justine Owando and George Onyango wasted the chances that would have halved the deficit.

AFC Leopards can now breathe a sigh of relief, but the loss means Nzoia Sugar have lost five straight games.
