A group of former AFC Leopards players raised the red flag yesterday over the team’s performance in the ongoing FKF-Premier League.

The legends warned that the 13-time champions were in danger of being relegated to the National Super League unless appropriate measures are put in place to reverse the current state of affairs.
They emphasised that the team’s lacklustre performance since the beginning of the season should be thoroughly investigated.

In a statement read by Reginald Asibwa, the legends expressed concern that the club’s decline has coincided with Dan Shikanda’s stewardship, a former player among their ranks.

“We are made to think that there is a lot happening in Ingwe than we know. Have some forces hell-bent on killing this decorated club?” the former players posed.

Reflecting on the team’s history, they remarked, “I wonder what can be said of Ingwe, once Gor Mahia’s perennial rival, later accustomed to mid-table positions, and now at the bottom of the log.”
They urged the current leadership to swiftly address the glaring issues facing Ingwe, emphasizing the need for a shift from verbal disputes to proactive team building.

“I think the leadership of one Shikanda, though a legend, should have been frequently in touch with us to help find a solution including scouting for talents,” remarked Asibwa.

The players highlighted the example of Pius Masinza, another legend, whose two talented sons are currently playing for Kakamega Homeboyz. The group suggested that the sons could have followed in their father’s footsteps by joining AFC Leopards.

Recalling their past experiences, they recalled how they spotted Allan Wanga during friendly matches in Lunza, facilitated by the Musukus. They expressed dismay at the presence of a Technical Committee that includes members unfamiliar even to them.

“It is sad that even when you speak and offer advice you are turned down and the reason is someone else is in power and you have no business when actually you are a legend, a fan and a member,” they added.
Nick Yakhama, one of the legends, asserted that AFC Leopards is under the control of a group aiming to dismantle the club for personal gain.
