Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo (pictured) has sacked his county executive committee member in charge of health and medical services after serving for only nine months.

Nyaribo sent Dr Timothy Ombati packing over the loss of drugs worth Sh22 million.

“Yes, I have sacked Dr Ombati. He duped me into flagging off empty boxes instead of drugs after my government spent millions of shillings to procure drugs which were not delivered to the county,” he said. “He has to go because my government has no space for such leaders.”

Nyaribo said that the drugs were to be delivered to five sub-county hospitals in the county but only Nyamira county referral hospital ended up receiving some drugs valued at Sh5 million.

Denied allegations

He said the other sub county hospitals of Ekerenyo, Manga, Keroka and Borabu did not receive any supplies.

But reached for comment, Ombati denied the allegations and termed them as malicious and intended to elbow him out of office.

Meanwhile, members of the County Assembly, led by deputy speaker Thaddeaus Nyabaro, deputy majority leader Duke Masira and deputy minority leader Minda Riechi, yesterday dismissed Ombati’s sacking and challenged Nyaribo to come clean on the matter.

Said Nyabaro: “It is now official that governor Nyaribo has accepted there is drugs theft in his government, an issue we have been raising for a long time. Let him now come out and tell us why he has not been taking any action against those involved”.
