Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday, August 12, 2023, announced that the government would commence another phase of registration of farmers.

Addressing a crowd at the North Rift, Gachagua noted that the move comes amidst the distribution of subsidised fertiliser. He also noted that the registrations will target farmers who had not been included in the system.

The DP additionally called on Kenyans demonstrating to stop the protests and get themselves registered to get subsidized fertilizer in order to help lower the cost of living through enhanced productivity.

Wiki ijayo tunatangaza another program muambie watu wenu wawachane na maandamano waende wajiandikishe wachukuee fertilizer waende kwa shamba. Hi maneno yote inaishia kwa shamba,” he stated.

Further, the country’s second-in-command stated that the first rollout of the subsidy programme was fruitful and farmers who had registered themselves are likely to record a bountiful harvest.

“This year, we will have a bumper harvest from the maize farms. Right now, we are looking for enough maize dryers so that farmers easily get access to them. The government and farmers will share the cost of drying maize,” he stated.

He reiterated that the government was determined to ensure that the program is a success.

In the same breath, Gachagua challenged Members of Parliament (MPs) to do right by their constituents by attending to their needs in a fair manner.

He noted that by discharging their mandated roles the lawmakers will automatically win the hearts of the constituents and boost their chances of being re-elected.

MPs tumia pesa vizuri, kama ni bursary peana in a fair and transparent manner, kua na usawa, usichukue pesa ya bursary kupatia matajiri. Hizi shule za maskini jenga badilisha sura ya shule,” he added.
