Raila: Police just like their boss Ruto are living in delusion
Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga has called out police officers over their alleged brutality witnessed across the country during the anti-government protests.
Speaking to the international press on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, Raila said police officers have continuously harassed unarmed peaceful protesters whenever the opposition holds anti-government protests.
He also claimed that the officers have been shooting protesters causing injuries and even deaths yet the government has failed to address the matter.
“The police just like their boss live in delusion. We have all seen the disturbing scenes of police brutality. The media has been showcasing disturbing scenes and the horror of police shooting innocent people. You find a police officer wearing civilian going out there to Mathare estate, removing his pistol and shooting a 15-year-old boy and another guy before running away,” he said.
Raila’s remarks came in the wake of the opposition’s calls to relevant authorities to condemn brutality meted on protesters during the opposition’s protests.
On Monday, the Azimio coalition lamented that the brutality has reached its extreme levels after protesters were left maimed, and others nursing serious injuries on delicate organs.
“Some have been shot in the back as they were fleeing or in a position of surrender. The shots have been aimed at the vital organs and delicate parts of the victims like the abdomen, the spine, the chest and the head,” the coalition said.
