Police in Limuru, Kiambu county have arrested three women for allegedly forcing female workers to remove their underwear in their presence.

The three, who are senior managers at Brownscheese Company Ltd based at the posh Tigoni estate, are said to have ordered all female workers to undress in order to establish who among them was in their menses.

This was after the firm’s Quality Assurance Manager discovered a used sanitary pad dumped in a dustbin instead of a sanitary disposal bin.

Confirming the arrest, Limuru OCPD Philip Mwania said the three will be arraigned tomorrow to face indecent assault charges.

“We received reports that female workers had been ordered to undress by their seniors who went ahead and inspected their private parts to establish who among them was on their periods.

Our officers rushed there and conducted thorough investigations and recorded statements from the victims before arresting three suspects,” said the OCPD.

Flanked by the  Limuru Sub-County Criminal Investigation Officer Felix Mutua and OCS John Misoi, Mwania said there were reports that shaming and humiliation of women had been going in several other companies in the area.

“We have reliably gathered that the demeaning and shaming vice has been going on for long. I want to warn such  employers that  justice will  soon  be served to all their  victims,” he said.

The company,  through  its head  of Finance and  Administration  Luke  Kimathi, said  that it will  cooperate  with  the  police  and  that it will also  conduct full internal investigations.

“All individuals involved  have  been  suspended  pending  the  company’s  investigations,” he told  the  media. “This matter  has only  recently  come  to the  attention  of the  senior  management  of the company  and lawful  actions  will be taken  against all the  culprits.”

The matter  came into the open  after  a male worker at the  facility exposed  the  same via a text to the media.

“Don’t expose me. I work with the Brownscheese Company Limited in Limuru, Kiambu county today in the morning a used pad was found in the dustbin and ladies were harassed by the Quality Assurance manager by telling ladies to undress in front of her to check who was on her periods. The ladies were demoralised.”
