NAIROBI: Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) yesterday confirmed that Tanzanian celebrity boxer Karim Mandonga will contest a Super middleweight non-title fight in Kenya.

Speaking exclusively to People Daily Sport, acting KPBC Secretary General Julius Odhiambo was excited for the upcoming bought. “ Mandonga will be here this January 2023 for a non-title fight.

We have already signed the contract and done the paperwork for him to be here for his big day,” said Odhiambo, adding that his opponent will be Kenyan-based, Democratic Republic of Congo’s Festo Botumbe.

Mandonga’s opponent, the 34 year old Congolese, has an astonishing record of winning five and drawing one since 2018 and the streets of Nairobi remember him for sending Frank Ochieng into a coma during the ‘Maketho Maloso’ undercard fight way back in 2016.

43-year-old Karim Mandonga is considered by many as a clumsy fighter who is not only mouthy and comical, but also dramatic especially when he broke the news to his fellow Tanzanians that he will be fighting in Kenya. “ Ali baba was no match to me. I unleashed my famous ‘Ndoige’ and sent him to the ropes.

That coward was a waste of time anyway, I am now concentrating on going to Kenya and will fight on January 14 in Nairobi. Kenya’s president Wiliam Rutto will be there to welcome me,” bragged Mandonga after defeating Ali baba Tarimo on December 26 at the AICC, lake Nyasa hall in Arusha, Tanzania.

KPBC also confirmed that this Super Middleweight non-title fight will take place at the famous Nairobi’s KICC where tickets will be sold from Sh 500 up to Sh 1000.

Now all eyes will be in Nairobi as Kenya welcomes the mouthy Tanzanians to come and cheer their own as the flashy, bragging but cunning Congolese comrades might decide either to come and also cheer their own, or take to their usual dance floors in Umoja estate and continue singing ‘Ndombolo’.
