The organizers, Exigent Limited who are the flagship owners of the Grand Nairobi Race will be facilitating the project which is expected to see key roads in and around Nairobi closed temporarily on the main day of the race.

Environmental conservation

Speaking yesterday during a cheque presentation of Shs 20 million to Exigent Limited at KICC COMESA Grounds, the Managing Partner of The Grand Nairobi Race Loise Wachira explained; “This will be an event that brings everyone on board with the focus mainly on health awareness and environmental conservation. It will be a fun event that will have multiple categories for families, kids, corporate organizations and the physically challenged. Our main race will be a total of 80 kilometers and it will entail speed-work and teamwork. We want to encourage cycling as a form of exercise plus of course talk about carbon emission that is affecting the climate. Some of our roads in the CBD and Upper hill will be closed and will be liaising with Kenya Urban Rural Association (KURA) and Kenya Cycling Federation to ensure we have a successful event,”she said.

Jubilee Insurance CEO Julius Kipngetich on his part stated that his organization will support good health practices and cycling was one of those: “We are excited about this project and we came in to share in our story as a company that deals with humanity. The Jubilee Live Free Race will be an opportunity for us to leverage and engage on the platform to engage and appreciate humanity. Our title sponsorship for this event is a total value of Sh 20 million. I would like to urge the Kenya Cycling Federation and other organizers to think about spreading wings to other regions for maximum impact on the sport just like the Tour de France which runs for 18 days across different places.”

Amani Racing Team Boss Paddy Williams, praised the initiative as one that will build cycling culture.
