Busia County emerged the overall champions as the Kenya Primary Schools Sports Associaton (KPSSA) Western Region games came to an end at the Busia County Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Chants of Otuoma, Otuoma yolere rent the air as Busia team manager Moses Ongwari received the trophy from the County Director of  Education, Nancy Afandi who was the Chief Guest.

It was a replica of the opening ceremony when Team  Busia arrived chanting the Otuoma Yolere lyrics. Team Busia has promised to present the trophy to the new Governor, Paul Otuoma. The border county ammassed 52 points to claim top spot.

Bungoma took second position with 49 points, Kakamega were third on 39 points with Vihiga finishing in Fourth position with 3 points.

Busia won three titles to match Kakamega which also clinched similar number of trophies to prove a point that they are an emerging power house in the region.

Busia volleyball girls team upset the formbook by winning the Western Region title for the first time. They achieved the feat after thumping Bungoma 3-1 (10-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-21) in a decisive match that was played on a round robin basis.

They had beaten Vihiga 3-0 on Sunday before beating Kakamega by the same margin in the second game. The emphatic victory saw them scoop nine points ahead of Bungoma who settled for second position with six points.
