Outgoing Mathioya member of parliament Peter Kimari has conceded defeat after losing his re-election bid.

In a statement on his social media platform, Kimari said he respects his constituents’ decisions.

Kimari who was vying on a Jubilee party ticket lost to Edwin Mugo of UDA.

Mugo garnered 20,911 votes while Kimari managed 8,684 votes. Johnson Kihato came third with 4,492 votes.

The incumbent MP said he was grateful for the opportunity given to him to serve Mathioya residents and transform their area through various development projects.

“It was a great opportunity for me to serve, better and transform our constituency,”read part of his statement.

He went ahead to congratulate Edwin Mugo who emerged the winner wishing him luck as he takes over the leadership mantle of the constituency.

“To my competitor, Edwin Mugo congratulations and best of luck as you enter the office to serve the people of Mathioya” read another part of his statement.
