Second Liberation stalwarts support Raila
Second Liberation heroes and freedom fighters yesterday threw their weight behind Azimio-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running-mate Martha Karua.
Veterans who fought for the introduction of multiparty politics and for standing firm against tyranny said that their struggles will come to fruition if the Raila-Martha ticket wins the August 9, polls.
Led by Prof Ngotho Kariuki the group charged that Raila and Karua have fought so hard to ensure that Kenya is a multiparty democracy and that the rights of the Kenyan citizens are guaranteed.
“We are here because we are the people that contributed to the freedom that Kenyans are enjoying today, and our major objective is to endorse ODM party leader and his running mate Martha Karua of Azimio coalition,” said Kariuki.
Clamour for constitutional change during the years preceding the millennium is considered the realization of Kenya’s second liberation.
The period led to the birth of a new group of fighters who kept the KANU regime on its toes and have since dominated Kenya’s politics leading up to the August polls, most politicians famed for being fighters of the second liberation have declared their support for Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.
