IEBC dismisses Narok West MP aspirant’s complaint
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Dispute Resolution Committee has dismissed complaint lodged by Narok West constituency independent aspirant Mercy Chepkirui.
Chepkurui was not satisfied by a decision made by the constituency Returning Officer to block her from the August 9 polls.
Chepkirui had accused the RO of disqualifying her from the race after she failed to submit her nomination papers by May 31, 2022 as required.
The dispute committee struck out the complaint saying it lacked merit.
‘Aspirant dismissal was foreable’
“The complainant omission was foreseeable and could be avoided. The reasons provided by her are not sustainable in law,” the committee ruled.
The aspirant had, however, attained all other requirements for nominations including 1000 signatures but was only blocked to vie for presenting her nomination papers out of the stipulated timelines.
She was the youngest aspirant in the race to succeed the current Narok West MP Gabriel Koshal.
Speaking to People Daily Digital after the ruling, Chepkirui said she will not appeal the decision at the High Court as she is satisfied with the decision of the IEBC committee.
“I will not appeal at all. I am okay with the outcome of the decision. I will now focus on my career in political science following my graduation recently. l will hopefully be on the ballot in 2027,” Chepkurui said.
