Raila’s DP nominee: Kalonzo agrees to face vetting panel
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is set to appear before Azimio One Kenya Alliance running mate selection panel on Tuesday, May 10 at the Nairobi Serena hotel after making a u-turn from his previous stance.
Initially, Kalonzo had turned down the offer maintaining that he should not be subjected to the interviews owing to his seniority in politics and his support for Raila in the last two elections.
Kalonzo will now go through the vetting process chaired by former Cabinet Minister Noah Wekesa of the prospective running mates for Raila Odinga ahead of today’s deadline.
Yesterday, five candidates faced the panel including; Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and his Nakuru counterpart Lee Kinyanjui with each exuding confidence of clinching the second slot ahead of August 9 polls.
Baringo senator and Kanu chairman Gideon Moi opted out of the interviews and instead threw his weight behind Musyoka who had demanded to be given the post unconditionally.
A self-imposed May 10 deadline for picking an Azimio-One Kenya nominee was reached by the selection panel after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission set May 16 as the deadline for parties to submit the names of their presidential candidates and running mates.
