Political analyst Professor Peter Kagwanja has faulted the move by Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi to join the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Kagwanja argues that Muturi stood a better chance to be President Uhuru Kenyatta’s successor for the region but he has “lost” it.

Addressing the media in Murang’a, Kangwanja said Muturi should have stood his ground of not joining any coalition and gone it alone to the ballot box.

“Muturi had a better chance of becoming the next Mount Kenya regional kingpin but his move to join the Deputy President William Ruto has made him lose the opportunity.

“He would not have won in the next general election, but he would have been nurtured to become a presidential material by 2027 or 2032,” Kangwanja said.

Kagwanja, who doubles as the patron Kikuyu council of elders who organized the coronation of the Speaker mid last year expressed his frustrations with Muturi’s move, saying the council had a lot of faith in him.

“We had picked on Muturi because we felt he was the best-suited leader from the region to be our spokesman but he has let us down.

“The coronation is now meaningless because Uhuru still remains our leader and he is the one to give directions which the region shall follow,” he added.
