Uhuru is founding member of ODM – Raila Odinga
ODM leader Raila Odinga has on Saturday, February 26, 2022, revealed that President Uhuru Kenyatta is a founding member of his Orange party.
Speaking at the ODM National Delegates Conference, the presidential hopeful stated that Uhuru was among the team that formed the political outfit.
Raila revealed that in 2005, when Kibaki’s government was pushing for constitutional reforms through a referendum, he united with Uhuru in the ‘NO’ camp whose symbol was an orange.
“Uhuru is a founding member of ODM. We were with him when the Orange team faced off with the Banana team in the 2005 referendum. He stuck with us in the Orange camp despite his backyard being a Banana zone. He remained steadfast and together we won the referendum,” Raila narrated amid cheers from the ODM delegates.
The former premier further stated that the Head of State would later be compelled to ditch ODM ahead of the 2007 General Elections ostensibly to avoid plunging himself into political oblivion.
“I advised him to return to KANU because he would have flopped if he ran for office on an ODM ticket in a region where our party was unpopular,” Raila added.
The presidential hopeful, who is now being backed by President Uhuru in his fifth stab at the presidency, further narrated how they have kept a professional relationship despite facing off in successive presidential elections.
