A man stabbed her lover to death in a suspected love triangle in Kahawa West, Nairobi, before going into hiding.

Police say the body of Lilian Achieng Aluko (pictured, left) was found in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.

The main suspect, George Mutegi, who is also the son of the deceased woman’s landlord, escaped immediately after the fatal attack.

Detectives have launched a manhunt for the suspect and have also recovered a blood-stained knife believed to be the murder weapon.

According to neighbours, Mutegi accused the deceased of infidelity, which she denied.

“Detectives have visited the scene and collected exhibits. The body was transferred to the mortuary awaiting post-mortem,” the area police commander said.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, there is a significant increase in the killing of women and girls in the country in the last two years.

About 100 femicide cases, the intentional killing of women and girls, have been reported in the last three months alone.

A recent report by the National Crime Report Centre (NCRC) indicates that majority of those killed by their intimate partner were married and living together. Stabbing is said to be the most common mode of killing, according to the report.

Prior to these alarming statistics, it was already recognised that intimate partner violence (IPV) is common.

“We are still appealing for information that will lead to the re-arrest of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, ” Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja said last week.

Another team of officers is also pursuing a gang that attacked and seriously injured a female cyclist along the Southern Bypass in Nairobi.

Road users on the stretch have complained of attacks by gangs that emerge from a forest.
