In the past few weeks, ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula have been going around accusing ODM leader Raila Odinga of being an untrustworthy leader.

The leaders have been claiming that they had a deal with Raila that saw them support the ODM leader’s presidential bid in 2017 in exchange for Raila to support them in the 2022 general election.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has, however, come out to reveal that there was a separate agreement between him and Raila, that he says is still binding.

He says what other National Super Alliance (Nasa) principals; Wetangula, Raila, Mudavadi and Isaac Ruto of Chama Cha Mashinani had with Odinga does not stand because the alliance had been dissolved.

“My deal with Raila has nothing to do with the Nasa coalition deal. This was separately negotiated,” Kalonzo said.

The former vice president said that while he was separately negotiating for the deal, his former colleagues – Wetangula and Mudavadi – declined to take part in it.

Kalonzo said that Wetangula’s ouster as Minority Leader in the Senate in 2018 was part of the consequences of the leaders failing to sign the deal with Raila.

“I pity my friends who left me to join Kenya Kwanza – Wetangula and Mudavadi. They told me in 2017 that ‘sisi tushakubali ni Raila ndio presidential candidate and you are his running mate, whatever mutakubaliana ni yenu.’ So I went ahead and negotiated this very important legally binding document,” Kalonzo said.
