Kiambu County Senator Karungo Thang’wa has assured former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of their support despite his ouster as Kenya’s second in command.

Thang’wa, who is a close ally of the former DP, guaranteed Gachagua support from the Mount Kenya region, stating that the whole community is behind him and rooting for his political comeback.

While quoting Confucius, the vocal senator described Gachagua as a gem that cannot be polished without friction, adding that the trials he (Gachagua) is facing are perfecting his leadership skills.

The senator went on to advise him to never give up despite the challenges he is facing following his ouster, adding that his political comeback is closer than he thinks.

“The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.

“No matter how heavy the trials are, remember that resilience is your greatest strength. You’ve come so far, and there’s a whole community behind you, rooting for your comeback. Hang in there; brighter days are closer than you think. #WeGotYourBack @rigathi” Karungo stated via his official X account on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

Gachagua’s woes

After his removal from office as the deputy president of Kenya, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has also stripped him of the party leadership position.

On Monday, November 11, 2024, the current Deputy President Kithure Kindiki succeeded Gachagua following a decision by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC).

“That by virtue of the resolution of the National Assembly and the vote of the Senate and by operation of Articles 75 (3) and 145 (7) of the Constitution of Kenya as read together with Article 8.2.19 of the UDA Party Constitution, Rigathi Gachagua is unable to perform the duties of the office of Deputy Party Leader and subsequently ceases to hold office as Deputy Party Leader,” the NEC resolution read in part.

In a move that further isolates the disgraced former deputy president, the UDA party has expunged Gachagua’s name from the party leadership following weeks of prolonged court cases challenging his impeachment.
