Former Harambee Stars Captain, Victor Wanyama, achieved a significant milestone in Major League Soccer (MLS) as he reached his 100th appearance on Sunday.

Despite Wanyama playing for 79 minutes, his team, Montreal Impact, suffered a 1-0 defeat against Atlanta in a league match held at Saputo Stadium.

This loss marks Montreal Impact’s third consecutive winless match in the league.

Wanyama joined Montreal Impact on March 4, 2020, after a free transfer from English club Tottenham Hotspur FC, signing a three-year contract with the Canadian team.

In his first season, he started in 21 matches, accumulating 1,890 minutes of play, scoring two goals, and providing two assists.

During his second season, Wanyama was appointed team captain and made 27 starts, playing a total of 2,365 minutes.

He contributed two goals and one assist to the team’s efforts. In his third season, Wanyama played 32 matches, with 30 starts, increasing his playing time to 2,636 minutes. He recorded five assists and one goal.

Although Wanyama initially hinted at leaving the club after the expiration of his contract, he eventually rejoined Montreal Impact ahead of the new season.

So far this season, he has played 1,620 minutes, appearing in 20 matches within 18 games.

Before his MLS venture, Wanyama spent four seasons at Tottenham Hotspur, where he participated in 69 regular season games, including 47 starts, and amassed 4,385 minutes.

He scored six goals and provided one assist. Notably, Wanyama played a crucial role in Tottenham’s journey to the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League Final, featuring in five knockout stage matches against Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, and Ajax.

In addition to his performances in the UEFA Champions League, Wanyama also played 13 Champions League games, two Europa League games, nine FA Cup games, and four EFL Cup games for Tottenham.

He secured the Premier League Goal of the Month award for February 2018, thanks to his remarkable strike against Liverpool.

r three seasons with the club, he participated in 85 Premier League games, making 74 starts and accumulating 6,515 minutes of play.

During his time at Southampton, Wanyama scored four goals and provided two assists.

He also competed in three Europa League qualification matches, three FA Cup games, and six EFL Cup games.

Before his stint in the EPL, Wanyama played for Celtic FC for two seasons. He contributed to the club’s success, helping them secure two Scottish Premier League titles in 2011-12 and 2012-13, along with a Scottish Cup in 2013.

Wanyama’s performances earned him the SPL Young Player of the Year award for the 2012-13 season. He recorded 10 goals and seven assists in 61 regular season games, including 55 starts, and played 4,911 minutes.
