President Uhuru Kenyatta has called for increased vigilance and surveillance by internal security agencies following the unfolding security situation in the country. 

According to a statement issued by State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena Mararo, Uhuru gave the directive during the National Security Council meeting held on Friday, November 12. 

“His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed internal security institutions to heighten vigilance and surveillance across the country following the unfolding security situation in the region,” the statement by the State House Spokesperson read in part. 

The directive from the Head of State comes after two Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers and two GSU officers were killed by bandits in Laikipia Nature Conservancy on Thursday.

The soldiers are said to have been digging a trench meant to prevent stolen livestock from being driven to the troubled conservancy when they were attacked.  

Sources said the bandits had only a short while earlier attempted to attack the GSU base and engaged the officers in a fierce gun battle.
