Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in Uasin Gishu County have formed an 11- member adhoc committee to carry out an inquiry into the Sh255 million county workers medical scheme.
The MCAs took the move following a protest by the more than 3,600 county workers on Tuesday where they presented a petition to the County Assembly Speaker Philip Muigei.
Led by the County Government Workers Union Uasin Gishu branch chairman Isaac Tallam, the employees claimed that Trident Insurance Broker has no capacity to handle their medical cover.
He claimed that county workers were being turned away at private health facilities due to non-payment by the insurance broker and also delays in approvals, thereby exposing his members of sufferings.
The private hospitals include Equity Afya, Cedar Avenue, Aga Khan and Palm Care located within the town’s central business district with some not offering admission service.
Issac Chirchir, the Soy Ward MCA will chair the ad hoc committee that will include Rebecca Jepchirichir, David Keitany, Gilbert Chepkonga, Peter Wanjohi and Amos Kiptanui.
Other members are Robert Kering, Veronica Burgei, Celestine Mutai, Sarah Malel (Deputy Speaker) and Julius Sang, leader of majority in the county assembly.
