Two people died yesterday while scores are fighting for their lives in various hospitals in Vihiga county after eating food suspected to have been laced with poison at a church function.
Grief gripped Luanda town after the two died at Emuhaya sub-county hospital where they had been rushed for treatment, with 56 others admitted at the same facility for treatment.
According to Vihiga county medical director Dr Benjamin Induswe, the victims were rushed to hospital on Monday complaining of stomach pains and diarrhoea.
“We have 60 people who were rushed at Emuhaya sub county hospital complaining of stomach pain and serious diarrhoea,” said Induswe.
Luanda Township MCA David Onjiri, who rushed to the hospital asked the affected families to remain patient. Luanda deputy OCS Abdi Jelle, who toured Emuhaya Hospital, said police have launched investigations.
Victims who spoke to the press said they suffered serious stomach pains and diarrhoea soon after eating the food.
