Gachagua impeachment case

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has confirmed that he will appear in Parliament today Tuesday, October 8, 2024, to defend himself against impeachment allegations, which will feature among the day’s top news events.

The impeachment motion, tabled by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, accuses Gachagua of gross misconduct, violations of the Constitution, and breaches of both Kenyan and international law.

The case has generated significant public interest, with many waiting to see how the proceedings unfold.

Gachagua on Monday, October 7, 2024, during a press conference addressed from his official Karen residence, expressed confidence in the legal process and reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Kenya.

“I will be in Parliament tomorrow to set the record straight,” Gachagua stated.

He described the accusations as “outrageous” and vowed to clear his name during the hearing with MPs.

Reactions to Gachagua presser

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, October 7, 2024, held a tell-it-all press conference at his official Karen residence to prosecute his impeachment case, which is expected to continue attracting mixed reactions.

During the late Monday presser, Gachagua sought to clear his name from the various allegations that have been leveled against him in the impeachment motion.

He refuted claims of acquiring a vast wealth within the two years of assuming office, and instead attributed the wealth attached to the impeachment motion, to his late brother Nderitu Gachagua.

Gachagua also stated that 7.2 million Kenyans elected him and that he was not going to resign as speculated by most Kenyans.

He also vowed to fight to the end, revealing that his team of lawyers was going to challenge the public participation that was carried out on his impeachment.

Junior Starlets

Junior Starlets will conclude their pre-World Cup friendly matches today against the Dominican Republic in the city of Santo Domingo.

This match will mark the end of a series of test games for the Mildred Cheche-led side as they prepare for their debut at the Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup, slated for October 16 to November 3.

They won two and drew one of their previous three friendly matches in Spain last week, ruthlessly defeating Valencia FC 4-1 in the opener and drawing 1-1 against European giants Portugal.

The Junior Starlets again registered another impressive win against the Spanish side Intercity, whom they thrashed 4-1.

“The test matches were really beneficial for the team. Playing against European clubs and Portugal was crucial for assessing our current level and identifying areas for improvement. The mood in the camp is positive, and all the players are excited for the World Cup and ready for the matches. They have adapted well to the climatic conditions here, which are a bit hotter than Nairobi, but they are up to the task,” Cheche noted.

Kenya is in Group C of the tournament alongside two-time winners North Korea, England and Mexico, while other African representatives Nigeria and Zambia are in Group A and Group D, respectively.

Kenya will begin its quest for glory against England on October 18 at the Estadio Cibao in Santiago de los Caballeros.
