Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi has hailed President William Ruto’s move to include a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members in his broad based government.
Addressing residents on Saturday, August 31, 2024, Sudi said the decision was well-advised as it helps unite Kenyans from all tribes, he explained that the decision followed after a section of key leaders in government attempted to overthrow Ruto’s government.
Without mentioning names, Sudi asserted that the said individuals who were thirsting for the president’s seat, were unhappy when Ruto included the former opposition members as they wanted to secure the positions for their own people.
“Mumeona sasa serikali imekua kubwa, ju tumeleta watu wa ODM, nataka tuambie wakenya, sometimes mambo ikikuja inakuja na sababu, kuna watu walichangia sisi kupanga serikali so mtu asilalamike, ikiwezekana tutagawa kabisa kwa sababu hii Kenya ni yetu sisi wote. Kuna watu walikua wanajifanya lakini ndani yao hawakutaka serikali ipanuliwe; kwa undani yao walikua na tamaa nyingi akipewa hii anataka ile, ata anaeza kuuliza umpatie bibi yako na bado atakutaka wewe. Serikali imepanuliwa kwa sababu ya tamaa na tabia mbaya, kutotosheka ni kitu mbaya katika dunia hii,” Sudi said.
While maintaining that the greed of these individuals highly contributed to the restructuring of the cabinet, Sudi commended the president for doing what was right for the country and encouraged him to further disband the Principal Secretaries (PSs) positions, and restructure it with inclusion of other Kenyans to promote unity.
The lawmaker further urged Kenyans not to blame the youths at the centre of the demonstrations as they were only being used be selfish leaders to destroy the country and overthrow the government.
“Nataka niambie rais asante sana kwa kutokua selfish, kutokua na aibu, kutotishwa, bado upanue hii serikali kabisa ikiwezekana hata hawa PSs utoe na upanue kabisa kila mtu apate nafasi. Ile maneno ya Gen Zs msiwalaumu kwa sababu walitumika bila kujua na wakafanya demonstration ya kwanza vizuri, lakini ya pili na mungiki, wakora, watu wa serikali…kuna watu walikua wanajaribu kupindua serikali,” he added.
The president disbanded his cabinet to form a broad based government after weeks of sustained protests in the country.
His restructured cabinet saw a section of high-level ODM members being appointed to key positions, and subsequent calm of anti-government demonstrations in various parts of the country.
