Youngster Wakachala promoted to Kariobangi Sharks seniors
By Luke Oluoch, July 21, 2025Kariobangi Sharks FC has promoted youngster Jahson Wakachala to the team seniors ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The William Muluya-coached team has confirmed the news of the versatile attacking ace who has been elevated for a kickabout with the seniors after spending time in the National Division Two with the juniors team.
“Jahson Wakachala is going. The versatile ambipedal forward with a powerful aerial presence has been promoted from the Youth team,” Sharks said in a statement.
Elevated
Wakachala’s promotion continues the tradition of upgrading youngsters by the Kariobangi-based team, famed for its repertoire of spotting and nurturing youthful talents.
In making the step, Wachaka follows in the steps of other Sharks men who have made a similar path to full professionals, with lanky central defender Panchol Ghai and midfielder Sigmunn Maina among the others.
Ghai and Maina were elevated to the seniors team in August 2023.

Wakachala becomes a second addition to the team after Wayne Dalvine Otieno.
The midfielder, also known by his peers as Messi, joined Sharks on Sunday, July 20, 2025, from Sofapaka FC following the expiry of his contract.
Hailing from Mathare North, Otieno, who is largely deployed in the midfield role, proved a crucial cog in Ezekiel Akwana’s side, featuring prominently in the club’s late resurgence that saw them finish in the league top ten.
His stint at Batoto Ba Mungu earned him valuable experience playing alongside Jack Ong’anya and Humprey Mieno in the team’s three-man midfield.
Kenya U20 call-up
The 2025 season saw him earn a call-up to the U20 national team fold alongside his teammates Baron Ochieng, Meshack Odhis, Jack Ong’anya, Derick Khaemba, and Charles Junior.
He, however, did not make the cut in Salim Babu’s final team that represented the country in the junior continental games in Egypt.
In its outbound transfer, Sharks lost midfielder Biron Otieno to Football Kenya Federation Premier League rivals, Shabana FC.
The midfielder agreed to a contract with Tore Bobe after a turbulent 2025 season with the former FKF Cup champions.
