Wounded Bandari, KCB seeking to save face in mid-week fixtures

By , May 3, 2023

After unceremoniously being bundled out of the Mozzart Bet Cup last weekend, KCB and Bandari shift their attention to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League where they shall lock horns in one of the seven mid-week fixtures lined up today.

With most teams remaining with seven fixtures to play before the season ends, it will be interesting to watch how success-starved Bandari starts life without their Head Coach Anthony “Modo” Kimani who was sacked on Monday by the management over poor results.

As for KCB, the elimination from Mozzart Bet Cup by Tusker following a 2-0 defeat at Police Pavilion grounds in South “C” was too bitter a pill to swallow which is why the Zedekiah Otieno’s charges have no choice but stop the Dockers if they are to appease their fans.

Like KCB, Bandari are also licking their wounds after AFC Leopards put paid to their ambitions of representing Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup in a 3-0 loss to Ingwe and interim trainer Twahir Muhiddin, who replaced Kimani, has to produce the mojo that shall endear the team to their fans again.

Since KCB lost 1-0 to Tusker in the league front, their attacking line of Kennedy Owino and Francis Kahiro has been goal-shy and will be hoping to steady the ship and prise open Bandari’s defence.

However, Bandari are also having more or less similar frailties in search of goals, meaning that Umaru Kasumba, Rogers Aloro and Douglas Mokaya should strive to be clinical if they are to find the back of the net.

In the meantime, Kakamega Homeboyz, proud after bruising the egos of Kariobangi Sharks in a huge 6-1 win the Mozzart Bet Cup, face what appears a relatively easy match against Wazito at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Against Sharks, Homeboyz’s match-maker Felicien Okanda, Vincent Ogolla, Hillary Juma and Hillary Juma were literally on fire and these are some of the players they will be relying on in its bid to jump up from an odd eighth position in the standings.

Meanwhile, Mathare United have revoked the hiring of Stanley Okumbi and instead, the team has contracted their former player Collins “Korea” Omondi whose first task is to steer the team today against Gor Mahia at Kasarani Main Stadium.
