World Cup experience for Kenyans
Kenyans will have a rare opportunity to view the Fifa World Cup trophy which will be displayed on May 26-27. However, only president Uhuru Kenyatta will be privileged to lift it at the venue which is yet to be disclosed.
The trophy comes to Kenya at a time when Fifa has suspended the country from all international football activities citing government interference. On March 31, FIFA ratified the suspension of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) following a landslide poll by the FIFA Council Members. FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that the suspension will be lifted immediately after Kenya reinstates the ousted Football Kenya Federation which was disbanded by the government on grounds of misappropriation of funds.
Countries selected
Coca Cola East and Central Africa Franchise vice president Debra Mallowah said Kenya is among the few African countries selected to host the world’s prestigious football trophy tour ahead of the 2022 World Cup slated for November 21st to December 18th in Qatar.
“We are excited to partner with FIFA to bring the World Cup trophy to Kenya for residents to view for two days. Kenya is one of the few African countries that have been selected to host the 2022 trophy tour,” Mallowah said. Speaking at a Nairobi hotel, the Bottlers’ Front Line Marketing Manager Lilian Limo said that this was a lifetime opportunity for football fans, their consumers and invited all Kenyans to join in the celebrations of extraordinary moment when trophy arrives. Fifa rules allow only the country’s sitting president and players who were part of the World Cup-winning team to hold the trophy.
Additionally, Limo announced that five Kenyans will be lucky to go to Qatar to watch two World Cup matches courtesy of Coca Cola ‘Believe is Magic’ promotion
