Kenya’s walking race ace Dominic Samson Ndigiti is gearing up for the 2022 athletics calendar with renewed vigour after signing a two-year sponsorship deal with DBA Africa.
Africa’s first not-for-profit sports management company has signed a pact to provide Ndigiti with training kits, assist him with negotiating new contracts, as well aiding him with long term career planning and facilitating his travels to races.
The 2017 World Under-18, 10 kilometre walk race bronze medalist is ecstatic with the deal, terming it the starting point in his quest to conquer the world in 2022.
“I’m super excited to land this deal. It is massive for me and a big step in my career,” Ndigit told People Sport.
“My performances brought me here, and I want to keep writing history with the help of DBA Africa, on and off the field. I am thrilled to be part of this team,” he added.
He registered stellar performances in 2018 and 2019 that saw him emerge the 2019 Africa U20 10k walk race champion, earning Kenya her first gold in the event.
Having been named the second best, youngest and most promising sportsman during the 2019 Sports Personality of the Year Award (SOYA), Ndigiti said that 2020 and 2021 have been his lowest years in his career after coronavirus disrupted his plans.
Responding well
“DBA caters for logistics and other needs, leaving me with the responsibility to concentrate, train hard and meet set targets.
The deal has given me an opportunity to go global and I want to make sure I compete in all major international races including world championships, the Diamond League, and the Olympics, which DBA is encouraging me to focus on,” said Ndigiti.
Ndigiti said that his first international focus is the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships in Muscat, Oman, on March 4-5 2022.
The event was originally scheduled to take place in Minsk in 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic led to its postponement and relocation.
“I’m in good shape, my body is responding well to training and I know by March, I’ll be ready to race in Muscat.
It’s a race I’m eagerly looking forward to as I seek to be in the podium finish,” said the national 10k walk race record holder.
