Joan Nabirye, Maurine Achieng Ater, Topister Situma, and Christine Nafula, each scored a brace as league leaders Vihiga Queens crushed Wadadia Ladies 8-1 to extend their lead in the FKF Women Premier League to five points clear.

After a one-month-long break, with most of their players involved with the national women’s football team, Harambee Starlets, Queens turned on the style in their return to league action.

“We thank God for the good win after such a long break. Wadadia is on the good side and we had to work hard to get the victory. I also want to congratulate the new players who came in to seal the gaps left by our key players who have left the club. They worked hard and I’m impressed,” said Vihiga Queen’s head coach Boniface Nyamunyamu.

No winner

The win took Vihiga to 22 points from seven wins and one draw in eight matches, while Bunyore Starlets moved temporarily to fourth place15 points after edging out visiting and bottom-placed side Kangemi Ladies 2-1.

At Stima Club Nairobi, the battle for second place was not decided as the much-anticipated top of league clash between Gaspo Women and Ulinzi Starlets failed to produce a winner as the tie ended in a one-all draw.
