Tusker goes top

By , April 20, 2023

Defending Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions Tusker FC will be on top of the log for at least 72 hours after they beat Wazito FC 2-0 in a mid-week fixture at Ruaraka grounds yesterday.

Title rivals Gor Mahia may, however, dislodge them if they beat Ulinzi Stars on Saturday.

The Brewers have now won their last seven matches on the trot with head coach Robert Matano keen to maintain the tempo all the way to the end. Tusker now have 54 points, one better than rivals Gor Mahia but the latter still enjoy a better goal difference since Tusker has conceded more. However, all eyes will be on K’Ogalo who are now rattled with Tusker also looking at an important fixture away at the difficult Sudi Stadium against third placed Nzoia Sugar FC in a game also set for Saturday.

A lovely strike by Eric Otieno in the 12th minute and a Lawrence Luvanda effort in the 27th minute did the magic for the veteran Matano who is eying history with a 13th potential title with Tusker and a third consecutive title with one club.

The Brewers controlled the game tempo at their backyard with precision passing as Rogers Ouma and Shaphan Siwa constantly tested the backline of Charles Odero’s team with Wazito goalkeeper Ezekiel Owade kept busy.

Meanwhile Kenya Police FC ran riot away at Bukhungu Stadium, blanking hosts and relegation candidates Vihiga Bullets FC 4-0 in a masterful performance yesterday afternoon.

The huge win took the Law Enforcers to fifth place on 43 points with a match in hand. Two first half goals courtesy of Duke Abuya in the 13th minute and Francis Kahata in the 38th minute to set the pace of a very rewarding afternoon. In the second half, two other goals came via Alvin Mangeni and Elvis Rupia in the 78th and 92nd minute respectively. Police Head Coach Francis Baraza made a couple of changes ahead of their big return clash against second placed Gor Mahia FC this weekend.

The hosts who are bottom of the pie with eight points had a torrid time defending against the free flowing Police side who dominated in all spheres of the game including possession, shots on target, balls won and even the number of fouls against their players. Police had a lot of balls in promising areas but players like Clifton Miheso and Derrick Otanga were guilty of openly missed chances as the Bullets struggled for stability and composure at the back
