By , November 10, 2022

A parent has volunteered to teach students at a school in Ndaragwa, Nyandarua County, Tae Kwondo to improve discipline and equip them with self-defence skills.

Stephen Wang’ombe decided to put his black belt fourth degree and 20 years of experience in the sport to benefit the students of Irigithathi Secondary where his son studies.

“Tae Kwondo is a sport that prepares one for self-defence and can be very useful, especially against rape for girls”, he said.

He called on other schools to incorporate the sport among their other sports.

“Tae Kwondo fighters are expected to uphold the highest level of restraint and discipline.

“I have trained many people who have later joined various disciplined forces,” Wang’ombe said.

He said, in 2021, the best Tae Kwondo student at National Youth Service (NYS) pass-out parade was a student he trained. He said other people he coached on the sport have also become trainers.

He said the sport has become very popular in the villages around Nyonjoro location where he lives with many girls showing interest. He urged schools to incorporate Tae Kwondo with other sports to keep students physically fit.
