Tonga dispatches Agoro Sare 1-0, but the champions rebound with a stunning 5-2

Defending champions Agoro Sare stunned 1-0 by debutants Tonga in a preliminary match, overcame a stubborn opponent 5-2 in the boys’ football final, during Homa Bay County Secondary Schools ball games at Raila Odinga (Rao) Stadium in Homa Bay Town.

Agoro Sare qualified to represent the County in the Nyanza Regional Secondary Schools ball games scheduled to kick off in Kisii County from July 9 to 13.

During the preliminary boys’ football matches, played at Homa Bay High School sports ground, Tonga Secondary School pipped Agoro Sare Secondary School 1-0 through prolific scorer Joseph Ouma, fondly known among football enthusiasts as Adama.

People Sport established that Agai has appealed against Kisumu County representatives Kisumu Day.

Wary of debutant Tonga’s stunning defeat in the preliminary match, Agoro Sare decisively thrashed Tonga Secondary School 5-2 during the Homa Bay County boys’ football final stages at Agoro Sare, keen not to take chances against the maverick Tonga, netted the opener in the 7th minute through key striker Joseph Odhiambo, who scored a brace.

Odhiambo fastened on a cross by teammate Moses Omondi, with winger Geoffrey Omondi extending the lead in the 13th minute.
The menacing defending champions continued running circles around subdued Tonga, rifling the third goal in the 30th minute through defensive midfielder John Obiero, after latching on to Moses Omondi’s aerial pass.

Tonga’s Adama immediately reduced the deficit in the 32nd minute, capitalizing on an error by Agoro Sare custodian Rio Fernandes.
Joseph Odhiambo scored Agoro Sare’s fourth goal in the 50th minute following an assist by Mohamed Annex, while Tonga’s Adama further reduced the deficit in the 60th minute.

Geoffrey Omondi, in an exceptional solo move, wrapped up the scores for Agoro Sare in the 85th minute in an exhilarating encounter with teammates Alex Pele, Mark Pamate, and John Kelly playing instrumental roles.

Speaking to People Sport after the county final match, Tonga coach Michael Adunga observed, “It was a good match. It is unbelievable Tonga came this far in boys’ football. We thank God for His grace upon the team. And, we are happy that Tonga will represent the County in the Nyanza Regional Games in Kisii, since Agoro will participate as defending champions.”

Adunga’s counterpart, Agoro Sare coach Fredrick Akuku, said this year the minimum goal is for his side to reach the Nyanza Regional Secondary Schools ball games’ football final and aim to feature in the National games also in Kisii, adding, “So far, we appreciate support from our fans and school administration for giving the youthful players a platform to showcase their talent.”
