‘Talanta Sports City Stadium to match the best in the world’ – Ababu Namwamba

Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports Ababu Namwamba has revealed that the Talanta Sports City Stadium will be an iconic landmark that will be comparable to the best stadiums in the World.

Speaking at the Jamhuri Grounds during the facility's groundbreaking ceremony attended by President William Ruto on Friday, Namwamba described the project as an iconic landmark that will rival the best stadiums in the world.

Namwamba highlighted that the design process for the Talanta Sports City has been meticulously planned for six months.

He added that the stadium's unique design was carefully curated to showcase the finest aspects of Kenyan culture, with a specific focus on football and rugby.

"We have spent six months behind the scenes to conceive and curate what will be an iconic landmark. The stadium is a unique design curated to reflect the very best of Kenyan culture. It is a customized football-only design tailored for soccer and rugby," Ababu stated.

Unlike the rest of the stadiums in the country, Talanta Sports City's design will be a compact layout aimed at enhancing the electric atmosphere, providing Kenyan teams with a distinct advantage in every home game.

The facility is aligned with the green agenda, incorporating renewable energy solutions to minimize its environmental impact.

"It is compact and curated to accentuate the electric atmosphere that will give Kenyan teams an advantage in every home game. It is in sync with the green agenda and pays attention to renewable energy, Ababu added.

Talanta Sports City compliance

Furthermore, Namwamba emphasized that Talanta Sports City complies with the stringent standards set by both CAF and FIFA, ensuring optimal size and fan circulation, particularly in VIP and VVIP areas.

The sports complex is also set to feature state-of-the-art technology, including top-level TV broadcast capabilities, VAR, and goal-line technology, placing it on par with the world's leading sporting venues.

"It also meets the CAF and FIFA standards talk of size, and fan circulation on VIP and VVIP. It is a tech-savvy facility designed for top-level TV broadcast, VAR, and goalline technology, comparable to the best in the World," he pointed out.

The president on his pay said the venue will be a 60,000 seater and added that is is set to be completed by December 2025.

"We are investing in sports and talent development so that our youth can monetise their skills and expertise. The ongoing upgrading of our facilities will turn Kenya into a global sports powerhouse and make the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations a memorable event.

"At the Jamhuri Grounds, Nairobi County, for the groundbreaking of the construction of the Talanta Sports City The 60,000-seat professional football stadium — to be completed in December 2025 — will be equipped with a standard athletics track, a standard football field and a shared rugby field," Ruto stated.
