Stray Cats one win away from league title

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology men’s basketball team, the Stray Cats, are one win away from winning the 2021/2022 Kenya Basketball Federation Men’s Division Two league title.

Stray Cats, who are unbeaten this season, completed a double over Shoot 4 Life in the finals playoffs series after winning Game One 80-66 and 83-71 in Game Two, and now need to win Game Three to emerge champions.

“We’ve already earned promotion since both teams making the finals earn automatic promotion, so our focus now is to win the league title and we’re hoping to crown it all in our next game,” Stray Cats coach Peter Kimani said.

In the first game on Saturday, the Stray Cats were forced to come from behind to secure the hard-fought victory 80-68.

In the second game, the Stray Cats came out guns blazing and took control of proceedings from start to finish despite a fierce battle from unrelenting Shoot 4 Life, claiming all the quarters 22-14, 21-20, 21-19, 19-18 for the final 83-71 score.

On the other hand, JKUAT women’s side, the JKUAT Lynx, suffered a blow after losing their opening two games to Eldonets Basketball Ladies, going down 74-36 in Game One and 66-55 in Game Two, and will need to come out strong in the remaining three games to stand a chance of winning the KBF Women Division One title. Eldonets was the only team to beat JKUAT Lynx in the regular season in Eldoret after the game went to overtime while Lynx won the return game in Nairobi.
