Strathmore Leos outshines Daystar Falcons, secures passage to semis
By Luke Oluoch, August 24, 2025Strathmore Leos have progressed to the Embu Sevens last four after a 29-5 win against Daystar Falcons in the main Cup quarterfinal tie played this Sunday, August 24, 2025 in Embu.
Victor Mola and Arnold Muita’s double tries proved sufficient for the Prinsloo winners to secure their fourth straight semifinal appearance in the one-sided encounter.
Leos stormed to an early lead after Victor Mola touched down at the flag after an excellent link-up play by Willis Ojal’s team.
Shujaa Stars on show
Nygel Amaitsa showed unique composure to move within securing a conversion. The move placed Leos within touching distance of a second try that came moments later through Arnold Muita, who touched the white paint for the second try for Strathmore, going up 10-0.
Elton Amalemba added a third try to see Stratmore Leos on a 15-0 cruise just before the break.
The university outfit continued their dominance against their counterpart, with Mola’s second try in the second half adding to the Falcons’ woes.
The win comes after KCB also stormed the Cup semis of the ongoing rugby Sevens series in Embu.
KCB in Semis
Dennis Mwanja’s team downed Kabras Sugar Rugby 21-5 to cement their dominance against the Westerners in the first quarterfinal clash of the main Cup.
Floyd Wabwile was instrumental in setting up the banker’s lead as he followed up his kick-out before setting up Samuel Asati for the try. A successful conversion from Brian Wahinya took the Bankers to a 7-0 lead.
KCB extended their lead via a penalty try late in the first half after an infraction by Kabras for attacking from an offside position.
The lead proved tough to be surmounted, with a resolute KCB defense marshaled by Samuel Asati putting the Sugar men at bay.
A good exchange between Brian Tanga and Brian Mutua saw the visitors reduce the deficit through conversion at the corner flag for a 14-5 scoreline.
Kabras fight back
The resurgence was curtailed after Floyd Wabwile burst from the centre to extend Denis Mwanja’s team lead to 21 in what was the final try of the clash.
The outcome Bankers replicate Leos’ feat of a fourth successful semifinal appearance, cementing their status among the favourites for the Embu title.
