Stars lined up for second edition of Nyamira Great Run half marathon

The Second edition of the Nyamira Great Run half marathon will be held this Sunday at Ikonge in Nyamira North with international title holders expected to take part.
Among those who will participate in the 21km road race are Askin Marathon winner and multiple title holder George Onyancha, best World Mountain runner Patrick Ng’eno, Sammy Nyokae, Enock Onchari and Philemon Kiriago.
The road race will start at Chepilat in Borabu and end at Ikonge Market. It is expected to be a tough battle especially after the county government of Nyamira doubled the amount of cash awards the winner will walk home with from the initial Sh100, 000 to Sh250, 000.
The second runner up in the race in both the senior male and female category will also pocket Sh150, 000 while the third runner up will be Sh100, 000 richer.
Governor Amos Nyaribo, while launching the event said the devolved government was looking into making the regional marathon an international event by increasing the amount of prize monies to the winners.
