Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions Gor Mahia yesterday officially announced the exit of lead striker Benson Omalla to Algerian club JS Saoura.

In a signed statement, K’Ogalo stated the Harambee Stars striker will join the North African giants on a loan deal until the end of the season. “We are happy to announce that our talisman Benson Omalla has moved to JS Saoura in Algeria on loan for the rest of the season,” read part of the statement.

“The two clubs have signed a loan agreement with the possibility of a permanent move if the player impresses at JS Saoura during the loan period.”

The statement added: “As the Executive Committee of Gor Mahia, we wish Omalla a good outing there being aware of his immense ability in the field of play and we remain optimistic these two clubs will foster a good rapport now and in the future.”

A source, who did not want to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter, alluded to People Sports that Gor Mahia will pocket approximately $20,000 (Ksh3.2 million) from the transfer, which could be made permanent if the players impresses during the short-term period.

“It is a good transfer that will benefit both Gor Mahia and the player because apart from the club pocketing Ksh3.2m, the player will also receive good package in terms of salary payment,” said the source, adding: “The deal is also open for the Algerian club to sign Omalla on a permanent deal.”

Gor Mahia further explained the transfer: “The player and the Gor Mahia undertake to suspend the employment contract binding them for the duration of the loan. JS Saoura will make payment of the loan compensation only after receipt of the TMS, and the player’s physical and medical visits.”

Late last year, reports emerged that Algerian club USM Alger were on the verge of signing the former Western Stima player but Gor Mahia later came out to deny the allegations claiming they had not received an offers for the striker.

Omalla leaves Gor Mahia as their top scorer in the top flight so far this campaign,  having scored nine goals. He also leaves Gor Mahia, who are chasing for a record 21st title, sitting at the summit of the 18-team table with 43 points.
