The move comes hours after Sofapaka reportedly lost the official team bus to auctioneers after former players Michael Kibwage and Paul Kiongera sought orders to sell the team’s bus to collect their salary arrears.
“The disputes could have been handled better but that is a thing of the past. The most important thing is the lessons learnt from it and how future disputes should be resolved amicably. We will have to revise our player signing policy and live within our means,” the team’s CEO RonaldOkoth said.
In a statement by the club, Okoth said the club is aggressively seeking funding to replace the bus, which is presently in the ownership of Bank Repossessed, Grounded, and Auctioneers Sar Sales.
“The bus has served the club for a very long time and it is unfortunate that we have lost it to auctioneers. For a very long time, the team has been planning to buy a new and modern bus and with the latest development, we will have to speed up the plan. Upgrading the means of transport is one of the objectives the new office is actively pursuing along with others like; sponsorship, membership drive and improving digital presence,” Okoth continued in the statement.
The bus is valued at slightly over Ksh1 million given the time it has been in operation for the Elly Kalekwa-owned outfit.
Relegation-threatened Sofapaka
The relegation-threatened side who are on a five-match winless streak will be keen to record positive results in their remaining fixtures if they are to maintain their FKFPL status next season.
The Nairobi-based side has only won one of their last five games, losing to Police, Shabana, and Sharks while splitting points with Bandari. Sofapaka has not been demoted from the league since 2009 when they created history by winning the league as newcomers.
Batoto ba Mungu will host Gor Mahia, and make a short trip to Nairobi City Stars before wrapping their campaign at home to an already condemned Nzoia.
