Shabana on course for long awaited NSL title as seal FC drop points

Shabana FC are once again in the driving seat as their National Super League title hunt and return to the  Premiership after two decades looks ever so near.

Tore Bobe as they are popularly known by their fans won 1-0 away against  Mwatate United Friday to move to 51 points off 23 matches. The league leaders have won 16 matches thus far and presently stand at a goal difference of +27. Granted, against 13th placed hosts, Sammy Okoth’s Shabana were not at their liquid best but just did enough to manage the game and ultimately walk the full points to keep their dreams alive.

Mwatate who are on 23 points with two games in hand are presently just doing the needful to stay afloat with 10 matches to go for them. The Taita Taveta County based side have nine wins in 21 matches played thus far but a poor goal difference of -14.

Meanwhile second-placed Murang’a Seal FC on 42 points off 21 games played, failed to pile instant pressure on Shabana after being left frustrated with a goalless tie away at relegation bound Silibwet Leons FC at Bomet Stadium. Vincent Nyaberi’s men had a lot of possession and attack threats in promising areas of the pitch but were thwarted by the low block defensive approach by their host team who seemed content with the point rather than dropping all three points at their own back yard. Leons are however staring at relegation despite the good fight as they are currently bottom in 17th place with only 11 points in the bag. Thus far,the South Rift side has only won two matches out off 23 and with a weak goal difference of -35 to their name.

Elsewhere, third placed Migori Youth FC kept their promotion chances alive once more following yet another important win on the road. Their 2-1 victory over relegation-threatened Vihiga United FC saw them move to 38 points with 22 matches played.

The win Saturday was their 10th in the campaign putting the sleepy border County on the map in football talk. Head Coach Kevin Oluoch has built a gritty youthful side on very minimal finances and seems to be achieving the desirable results going by the current show.
