Shabana, Nairobi City Stars fight for Muyoti services
By Dennis Mabuka, January 10, 2024
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League side Shabana and Nairobi City Stars are embroiled in a tussle for the services of Coach Nicholas Muyoti, People Sports can exclusively report.
Tore Bobe, who are struggling in the top-flight have settled for the 47-year-old Muyoti as the coach to help them keep their status in the league but Simba wa Nairobi are not ready to release their man, who joined them in 2021 from Kakamega Homeboyz and penned a three-year contract.
Confirming the same, Muyoti told People Sports he had indeed received a good offer to take over the mantle at Shabana, which he had already accepted, but the stumbling block remained City Stars, who are not willing to let him go.
“It is true, I have been holding talks with Shabana over the vacant role, and three days ago they tabled to me an offer that I could not resist, I am willing to take the offer because everything in terms of con-tractual matters is done and agreed,” Muyoti told People Sports.
“However, my move to Shabana is not done yet because I am still waiting for the release letter from Nairobi City Stars. I have written to them (City Stars) asking they let me move to Shabana but they are dragging the issue, I am ready to join Shabana because the offer on the table is good for me.”
Muyoti has enjoyed a good season with City Stars managing to haul them from the bottom half of the 18-team table to second position since he took charge. City Stars are currently among the title favour-ites as they are seven points behind table leaders and reigning champions Gor Mahia.
Asked why he wants to leave City Stars to join a side that is already fighting relegation, Muyoti said: “As a coach you have to take challenges, I have done my best with City Stars but Shabana have ap-proached me for my services, what they are offering me is good and I cannot turn it down.
“I am also keen to help them avoid relegation, it is good to face such challenges, being second on the log is good for City Stars but Shabana also needs to move up to a respectable position, so I am ready to take up the challenge and see what happens at the end of the season.”
Tore Bobe are without a coach following the sacking of Sammy Okoth on matchday 12 of the season.
