Serani beat Tononoka to retain title in school games
By Harrison.Kivisu, August 31, 2022Defending Mombasa champions Serani Boys High School retained their football title in the just concluded Kenya Secondary School ball games held at the Shimo La Tewa Secondary School.
The 2019 champions beat the former Mombasa champions Tononoka Boys by 2-0 goals in a nail-biting final match played last weekend. Serani are also hoping to defend the regional title they won in 2019.
Serani under the tutelage of their head coach Alex Shikanga took dominance in the first half of the play with Ali Kamalu netting the first goal in the 22nd minute of the play before Salim Khamis netted the second goal in the 34th minute.
Shikanga expressed optimism that his charges will win the regional competition and feature in the East Africa competition they last participated in in 2019 in Arusha Tanzania.
“I’m confident that my boys will go through to the East Africa games because we are fully prepared to clinch the regional title, my team is intact and we want to warn our opponents to brace for a tough contest,” said Shikanga.
His hopes are pegged on the fact that the Kwale county defending champions will not compete after they were bundled out in the county competitions.
In their journey to finals, Serani had humiliated Concordia Mixed Secondary School by 4-0 goals, while Tononoka had a 3-2 victory against Khadija Secondary through post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in extra time.
Defending champions Changamwe secondary school humbled Kaa Chinjo secondary by 6-2 points to secure their slot in the provincial competitions to be held in Kwale Boys High School.
