Ruto promises to elevate Shabana’s Gusii stadium to international standards
By Luke Oluoch, November 22, 2025President William Ruto has promised to renovate and upgrade the Kisii County Stadium to international standards.
Speaking in Kisii on Saturday, November 22, 2025, Ruto said the facility wasn’t good enough for the Football Kenya Premier League club and needed improvement.
Ruto revealed plans to relocate the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) offices to different grounds and facilitate the upgrade of the county government stadium.
Kisii stature
“I have talked with your leaders about this stadium. It’s not befitting the stature of Kisii. This county has a hugely followed team in Shabana,” he said.
In realising the plans, Ruto revealed that a contractor for the project was already on standby and awaiting the county administration to finalise the transfer of the ASK
“We have been in communication with the County and the people of ASK which sits next to the stadium on a 5-acre plot, to enable us to expand this facility to international levels. We have pleaded with them to move so that we can expand this stadium to a national stadium where we can host international matches,” he stated.

Ruto’s remarks come months after he also committed to gifting the team a brand-new, modern team bus back in August.
In a statement shared by the team’s Secretary General Elizaphan Kerama on Friday, August 15, 2025, the club confirmed that Ruto had consented to the significant donation.
The club, while lauding the gesture from the president, said it is a demonstration of his faith in one of the clubs commanding a huge following in the country.
New modern team bus
“On behalf of the entire Shabana family, our players, technical bench, management, and our millions of passionate fans, we extend our heartfelt THANK YOU to H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, CGH, President of the Republic of Kenya, for graciously accepting to gift us a brand new modern team bus,” the club said.
Ruto made the pledge as the Peter Okidi-coached team prepared to kick off its 2025 season.
