President William Ruto has disclosed his love for Arsenal, exuding optimism that the table-topping Londoners are in for better tidings in the ongoing season.

Speaking during the English Premier League Trophy tour at State House, Nairobi, on Friday, October 24, 2025, Ruto caused a round of laughter, for bantering their arch rivals, Manchester United.

Arsenal is back

“As many of you know, I am a proud Arsenal fan. Indeed, the last two decades have not been very easy for us. We have had our own share of near-misses and heartbreaks. But if you have been watching us lately, then you know it is all coming alive again. So to our friends, watch out, Arsenal is back,” he stated.

The former EPL giants have endured a tough start to the campaign and are currently ranked ninth, with 13 points, six behind the high-riding London rivals.

Ruben Amorim’s team only recently firmed up its resurgence quest by winning back-to-back ties for the first time to leap to its current position.

“We also sympathise with Manchester United, but I think it is the nature of football,” he said on United’s recent struggles.

The president also spoke on the banter associated with the two most-followed clubs in Kenya, recalling how they used to pass the time discussing the game with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“The banter, engagement, and arguments between the different people have been healthy. Unfortunately, we lost one big Arsenal fan in Raila Odinga. He was someone who was immersed in the game and we used to discuss how we were struggling, whenever we were not discussing difficult stuff,” he added.
