FKF top official dismisses move to bar Nick Mwendwa from defending seat
Football Kenya Federation vice president Doris Petra has dismissed Sports Registrar's move to bar Nick Mwendwa from defending his presidential seat.
Rose Wasike, in a statement, said that Mwendwa and his national executive members are not eligible to defend their seats in the upcoming elections that will be held in October this year.
However, Petra says the law is on their side, adding that their terms started when the last election was concluded.
"Let our opponents not fear us and meet us at the ballot. FIFA has not informed us of any ineligibility for re-election. The law is on our side.
"We won and served our first term from 2020 to 2023 because that is when the new constitution came into effect. We are seeking re-election because our serving under the old constitution from 2016 to 2020 can’t be counted. That is the law," Petra said, as quoted by a local publication.
Looking for FIFA support
The FA's top official further said that they will not listen to anyone else but FIFA.
“FIFA are our financiers, and we follow their laws, but we also respect government institutions.
"Facts are facts, and it is the same registrar and Sports Dispute Tribunal that allowed the same electoral code, which is now being disputed, to be used in the last election,” she added. 
The Sports Registrar holds that Mwendwa and the NEC members have already served their terms and will not be eligible to stand again.
"I wish to remind you that your current leadership, including yourself [Mr. Barry Otieno], President Nick Mwendwa, Deputy President Doris Petra, and the members of the National Executive Council, are not eligible to vie in the upcoming polls set for October 2024, having already served two terms as they are supposed to be according to the Sports Act.
"The failure to uphold these legal standards jeopardizes the integrity of football governance in Kenya and undermines the democratic principles upon which our sporting institutions should be founded," the statement said.
Wasike's move is set to generate a storm between the pro-Mwendwa camp and their opponents.
