Kenya's Peres Jepchirchir has had her world record set in April 2024 officially ratified by World Athletics.

This ratification confirms that her performance meets all required criteria and adheres to the rules and regulations of the governing body.

The verification process involved ensuring the performance met all necessary conditions. This included testing the athlete, with negative results required to proceed.

Jepchirchir had to be eligible under the World Athletics Competition Rules and under the jurisdiction of a World Athletics member.

To be officially recognized by World Athletics, results must be achieved in competitions conducted according to their rules and regulations.

Jepchirchir rewrote the record books by running 2:16:16 at the TCS London Marathon, improving the women-only world marathon record by 45 seconds.

The field for the World Athletics Platinum Label race on April 21 was one of the deepest and highest-quality women's fields ever assembled.

Breaking Mary Keitany’s women-only world record of 2:17:01 was the primary target. Ultimately, Jepchirchir achieved this feat.

Seven women remained in the pack at the halfway point, reaching it in 1:07:04, the second-fastest half-way split ever recorded in London.

Jepchirchir won the race in 2:16:16, finishing seven seconds ahead of Tigist Assefa. Joyciline Jepkosgei finished third (2:16:24), and Megertu Alemu came fourth (2:16:34), making it the first marathon where four women finished inside 2:17.

Jepchirchir will join Hellen Obiri and Brigid Kosgei in representing Kenya in the Paris Olympics Marathon. She won the gold medal in the women's marathon at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and was the champion at the 2016 and 2020 World Half Marathon Championships.

She claimed victories at the 2021 New York City Marathon, 2022 Boston Marathon, and finished third at the 2023 London Marathon.

Jepchirchir's best time for the half marathon is 1:05:06, set on February 10, 2017, in the UAE, a former half marathon world record.
